Bright Future Scholarship Requirements 2019: Bright Future Scholarship is one of the popular scholarship programs in the state of Florida. It was started in the year 1997 and is funded by the Florida Lottery. It is scholarship program that assist the meritorious students of Florida who attend a Florida High school or an eligible Post secondary institution.

This scholarship has helped more than 725000 students of Florida studying in Postsecondary institutions. Students must meet a prescribed eligibility criterion to qualify this scholarship. Eligible students who which to apply this year, are advised to apply by 31st August 2019 after the high school education. After the last date, they not be able to apply for it.

Type of scholarships under Bright Future Scholarship 2019

Bright scholarship is basically a set of scholarships. There are three types of Florida Bright Future Scholarships. These include-

  • Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)
  • Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)
  • Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV), Gold Seal CAPE Scholars (GSC)

All these scholarships have different eligibility requirements. Students can apply for any of these scholarships.

Bright Future Scholarship Requirements  

If you are looking forward to apply for Bright Future Scholarship, then you must ensure that you are eligible for it. Your eligibility takes you more close to the scholarship. If you are eligible it means you have moved a big step ahead towards the scholarship. The eligibility requirement for this scholarship are specific, quite tough and tricky to understand. General requirements for all applicants

Here are the general requirements that every applicant is required to have-



  • Must be a US citizen and a resident of Florida or eligible noncitizen as specified by the student’s postsecondary institution.
  • Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) by 31st August of your high school graduation. It means if you are going to complete your High school graduation in 2019 then you must apply before 31st August 2019.
  • You need to have a Florida High school Diploma or equivalent from a Florida Public High School or a registered Florida Department of Education (FDOE) private high school or have completed the home education program.
  • One who apply have not been found guilty of, convicted of or pled nolo contendere () to a felony charge.
  • Student must be accepted or enrolled in a certificate or degree programs at a Florida Public School or independent postsecondary institution.
  • Be enrolled for minimum 6 non-remedial semester credit hours per term.

Bright Future scholarship Specific Requirement for FAS/ FMS

Students willing to qualify for FAS or FMS have to necessarily meet the following initial requirements-

  • Graduate high school with a standard Florida high school diploma from a Florida High School, earn GED, graduate from a registered Florida Department of Education private high school, graduate from a non-Florida High School or complete a home education program.
  •  Florida education institution i.e. Florida public high school/ registered Florida Department of Education private high school/ non-Florida high school/ home.
  • Complete the required coursework.
  • Secure minimum high school Grade Point Average (GPA) required for scholarship.
  • Secure required minimum score on either SAT or ACT college entrance exam  
  • Complete the number of service hours required.

High school course credit requirement for both FAS and FMS-

Note- Students have to submit score of either ACT or SAT exam.

Other Ways to Qualify

There are also some other merit recognition programs on the basis of which students can satisfy the eligibility requirements. These are-

In terms of eligibility requirement, FAS is a bit more competitive than FMS.

Requirements for GSV- Bright Future scholarship



Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV) award can only fund the career education and certificate programs. It is does not covers the funding of any degree program. This may be a reason that it slightly less competitive than FAS and FMS in terms of requirement.

Students need to satisfy the following initials requirements in order to qualify for GSV-

  • Secure the required minimum GPA of 3.0 in the non-elective high school courses.
  • Secure the required minimum GPA of 3.5 in the career education courses
  • Complete at least 3 full credits in a single Career and Technical Education program.
  • Complete 30 service hours.
  • Secure the required minimum score in the SAT, ACT or Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) exam.

Requirements for GSC

Gold Seal CAPE Scholars (GSC) is similar to GSV as it a part of GSV scholarship. To qualify for GSC scholarship, Florida students must meet the given requirements-

  • Must earn at least 5 credit hours through CAPE industry certification.
  • Must complete 30 hours credit.

Bright Future scholarship Requirements for Non-Traditional Students

Eligible non-traditional students an also apply and qualify for Bright Future Scholarship. These students include-

  • Students in a home education (HE) program
  • GED students
  • OOS students

Requirements for Bright Future scholarship HE students

Students in Home Education (HE) programs must be registered with the district for 11 and 12 grades. They must fulfill the following criteria-

  • Meet the general requirements (shared above).
  • Earn minimum test score
  • Must submit FFAA
  • Must complete the minimum service hours

Required Documents-

HE students are required to submit the following documents-

  • Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) before the due date
  • SAT/ACT score
  • Service hour documents

Requirements for General Educational Development (GED) students

Students who have earned a Florida GED diploma (Florida high school equivalency diploma) can also apply provided they have to meet all the eligibility requirements.

  • SAT/ACT/PERT score
  • Transcript
  • GED diploma
  • Service hour documents

Requirements for Out-of-State (OOS) students



Students living outside state of Florida with their parent/ guardian who is in Military or public service assignment way from the state can also apply only if they satisfy the given requirements-

  • Must meet the general requirements
  • Official high school transcript
  • Submit Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) before the due date
  • SAT/ACT score
  • Transcript
  • Documents of OOS assignment
  • Service hour documents
  • Proof dependency

Bright Future scholarship Application Procedure

Once students have applied for the scholarship, they can track their application and award status at www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org. Students are required to manage and update their accounts by using their login credentials on a timely basis. The award of the scholarship will be directly send to the eligible Florida postsecondary institutions.

Application fee

  • It is completely free and no application fee is required to be submitted by the applicants.
